Gran Alacant is one of the closest tourist resorts to Alicante airport and is located on the southern Costa Blanca.
Car hire is not necessary as a frequent bus service runs between the airport, resort and Santa Pola. Gran Alacant is a popular seaside resort where many Spaniards have bought second homes and many come to the resort on weekends to enjoy a break by the sea.
Beaches
Gran Alacant is also a popular destination for expats due to its excellent location and beaches. Carabassi Beach is the main beach serving tourists and locals in Gran Alacant, north of the resort. Carabassi Beach is a wide, golden, blue flag sandy beach with walkways and foot showers.
Santa Pola is just six kilometers south of the resort. It is also a great place to spend time due to its long expanses of Blue Flag beaches and day trips to Tabarca Island, a diver's paradise.
Santa Pola is also a great fishing port and has a large number of fish and seafood restaurants.
Nearest golf courses
Although there are no golf courses in Gran Alacant, the nearest are approximately twenty minutes away by car at Club de Golf Alenda to the north west of the resort and Alicante Golf to the north of the large port and city of Alicante.
South of Santa Pola and Torrevieja are numerous golf courses such as the Marquesa and La Finca golf courses.
What to see and do
Transport
Gran Alacant also has an orbital bus system where tickets can be purchased in books of ten. A one-way ticket to anywhere in the resort costs just €1.40.
For more information about what to see and do in Gran Alacant, visit the Gran Alacant Tourist Office on Avenida Escandinavia, open Monday to Friday from the beginning of March from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM until the end of October, which is also the peak time for tourism in the resort.
